Who We Are and the Fence Work We Do

San Antonio Expert Fence is a fence company working in San Antonio and in the towns around it. We put up wood privacy fences, picket fences for the front yard, vinyl, chain link and pool fences, and powered driveway gates. We repair fences too, from a gate that won't latch to a section knocked loose in a storm, and we clean and stain wood fences that have weathered gray. For businesses, apartment communities and HOAs, we handle commercial fencing as well.

Putting up a fence in San Antonio comes with rules. The city sets its own heights for the front, sides and back of a yard, and on a corner lot, in a historic district or under an HOA, there are more rules on top of those. Working that out is our part of the job. You decide on the fence you'd like, and we plan it to the rules where your home is. Our Fence Installation page walks through the permit and the rest of it step by step.

Fence Rules in the Towns Around San Antonio

Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Leon Valley, Converse, Universal City, Schertz, Cibolo and New Braunfels are cities of their own, and a fence inside their city limits goes by that city's rules, not San Antonio's.

Some of the differences are easy to miss. In Leon Valley, a front fence on a house lot can be no taller than 44 inches, and chain link isn't allowed in its front yard at any size. Converse's fence permit form says fence posts go no more than 8 feet apart in concrete and calls for an inspection once the fence is in, which San Antonio's residential fence permit doesn't. Alamo Heights limits how much digging can happen around the roots of a heritage tree, and when Universal City rewrote its fence rules in 2023, it spelled out what counts as minor and what counts as major fence maintenance.

We look up the rules for the city your home is in and plan your fence to them from the start. When one of our pages gives you a fence height or a permit rule, it comes from the city's own published documents or, for a state rule, from the Texas law itself, and the town pages go into more detail if you'd like to read about yours.

What Happens After You Send the Form

Send the form with a few lines about your fence: what's going on with the one you have, or what you'd like built and roughly where. We'll call you back and find a time to come out and take a look.

When we're there, we measure the run and look over what's around it, from the slope of the yard to a tree near the line, and work out what the rules allow on your lot. After that, you'll get a written estimate for the job.

If a Repair Will Do

If your fence needs a repair rather than a new fence, that's what we'll recommend. There's no reason to replace boards and posts that are still in good shape. When a new fence makes more sense, we'll explain why, and if a repair is still an option, we'll price that too so you can compare.

Questions About Working With Us

What will my fence cost?

Our service pages and town pages list typical prices, from a single post or gate repair to a new privacy fence, and the fence cost calculator adds up a rough total for your own fence line. Your own price comes from how long the fence is, since fences are priced by the foot, along with the height, the material and the gates. Once we've seen your yard, you'll have it in writing.

Do I have to get the permit myself?

In San Antonio, no. When your fence needs a city permit, we pull it, and in a historic district we also prepare what the historic office reviews. In the towns around San Antonio, the permit comes from the town, and when a town's permit applies, we go over what it asks for with you and put the details together before any work starts.

Will you come out for a small job?

Yes. A gate that drags or won't latch, a few broken pickets or one leaning section is a job we'll come out for, the same as a new fence around the whole yard.

Can the fence go up before the permit is issued?

No. In San Antonio, a fence built before its permit is issued is subject to double permit fees and still has to meet the city's rules, so when a job needs a permit, we wait for it before any digging starts.

Do you work on fences for businesses and HOAs?

Yes. We handle commercial fencing for businesses, apartment communities and HOA communities, along with fences and gates for homes.

Have a Fence Job in Mind?

Send a few lines about the fence and the street it's on, in San Antonio or one of the towns nearby, and we'll work out what your lot allows and plan the fence with you from there.
